Stepping into a tiny coffee-town universe

I’ve stayed in cabins, eco-lodges, domes, you name it… but nothing prepared me for La Querendona, a full replica of a tiny Coffee Region town tucked in the mountains outside Pereira.
Think: a small plaza with a fountain, a little chapel, a fonda straight out of an old Colombian movie, and even a jipao parked like it’s ready for a real trasteo (aka a traditional Colombian moving day). The vibes? Pure magic. It feels handcrafted, intimate, and seriously photogenic.
The rooms: Pereira’s nicknames brought to life
Every room in La Querendona is named after the nicknames Pereirans use for their city — which already gives you a clue about the storytelling energy here. There are three stays:
- La Trasnochadora
- La Morena
- La Querendona (the star!)
Each one feels like a small home: super comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, private terraces to chill under the sun, and even a jacuzzi. It’s the kind of place where every detail makes you go “okay… they really thought of everything.”
The Jipao: the soul of the Coffee Region

Outside, right in the plaza, there’s a jipao — the iconic Willys Jeep that carried coffee, produce, families, animals, basically whole lives stacked on top.
This one is loaded with details: sacks, ropes, crates… the whole nostalgic Coffee Region vibe. It’s like stepping into a living museum.
And then… the chiva (yes, you can sleep in it)
Colombia loves a dramatic reveal — and La Querendona delivered.
The highlight of the entire place is La Querendona: a full classic chiva turned into a complete stay.
A chiva is an old-school Colombian bus: wooden seats, bright colors, hand-painted patterns, and murals inspired by molas and traditional Antioquia & Coffee Region art. They’re still used today in rural towns, blasting music and carrying everything from people to chickens.
But this one? It’s fully equipped. A whole mini-apartment inside a cultural icon. Comfortable bed, kitchen, terrace, jacuzzi — all inside a colorful Colombian bus. You won’t find another stay like this. Period.
The landscape: mountains, coffee farms & slow mornings
La Querendona sits in the countryside just outside Pereira, surrounded by rolling green mountains and that soft golden light you only get in the Coffee Region.
Waking up here feels like hitting pause on life. Breakfast is included — a proper Colombian one — and eating it in a tiny-town plaza replica feels unreal.
Perfect base for exploring the Coffee Region
You’re close to some of the best things to do around Pereira:
- Parque del Café — a mix of theme park + coffee culture.
- Filandia — colorful streets & killer viewpoints.
- Santa Rosa de Cabal — legendary hot springs.
- Dozens of miradores, cafés, nature trails, and hidden gems.
Is it worth it?
If you want a stay that’s unique, authentic, deeply Colombian, and insanely photogenic — absolutely yes.
La Querendona nails comfort, culture, storytelling, and aesthetics all at once.
It’s perfect for couples, solo travelers, photographers, and anyone who wants to experience the Coffee Region in a way that hits different.
